Day FIFTEEN | Free Day in the Tetons!

AHHH free day!!!  And did we ever need it! We got a break from the projects, readings and homework (not to mention Gary, Michael, and Julie got a well deserved break from all of us haha).  Almost everyone went to Jackson, WY to enjoy their day, while some opted to go for a hike.  Many of us enjoyed the fine dining that Jackson had to offer such as the Bunnery (where I got a delicious Eggs Benedict with a side of bacon, yum!), Chinatown, and Totally Tacos for breakfast or lunch.  After lunch most of us took advantage of the beautiful weather by either going to Jenny Lake, Phelps Lake, or the river.

David, Matt, Michael, Nick Gulick, Nick Lyon and I decided to explore the river.  The water was clear as crystal and cold as a skinned buffalo in the Wyoming winter.  We built some instantaneous art in and along the river for fun.  On our way back downstream we saw a moose drinking water right in front of us 20 yards away!  He had some big antlers and a mean stare.  So needless to say we found an alternate route back to camp.
Kat's moose!

Yes Nate did see a moose, but I saw a moose that was way cooler! On the way to Jenny Lake I saw a moose swimming and it had the cutest tiny antlers. That’s why my moose is much better. I wanted to take it home and have it be my pet.  The view at Jenny Lake was breathtaking. I hiked to the perfect spot and found a log hanging off the edge of the shore where I sat and relaxed the entire afternoon.

After another delicious dinner of soup and Ramen the sun went down and the stars came out.  There is no night sky in Ames that compares to what we saw in the Tetons.  The sky was bursting with stars.  It was so beautiful that many of us brought out our sleeping bags and watched them for hours (some even slept outside all night!)

At night I got really scared because bears live around our campsite and I didn’t want them to eat me or anyone else. I felt a little better when my friend David said that bears have bed times so they would be sleeping not eating. A momma bear told him that.  He must have been right because we survived!

The Tetons are so beautiful!
Once it got late I decided to go to my tent and sleep.  And then “Scaredy-Kat” came into our tent and talked about how she thought she was going to get eaten.  So David made up this story about how bears have a bedtime or something silly like that to make her feel safer.  Then she wanted an escort to the bathrooms so I being the gentleman that I am took her there and back.  If she asks me to accompany her again I’m going to charge her $5.
